Abstract

This study explores the relationship between achievement pressure and the emergence of anxiety in the academic context, as well as its impact on students’ performance and well-being through a literature review. The findings of the analysis indicate that high academic demands, both from external sources such as parents and educators and internal drives from the students themselves, play a significant role in triggering anxiety. Excessive pressure can lead to stress that causes anxiety, characterized by feelings of worry, fear of failure, difficulty focusing, and a decline in cognitive abilities such as memory and problem-solving skills.  The discussion also shows that anxiety has two aspects. At a moderate level, anxiety can function as a motivator for learning. However, if not managed properly, anxiety can negatively affect academic achievement and create an ongoing cycle of pressure. In addition, anxiety also impacts students’ mental well-being, such as emotional exhaustion, sleep problems, decreased interest in learning, and a tendency to avoid academic tasks.  These findings emphasize the importance of creating a balance between academic demands and emotional support. A supportive learning environment and the implementation of healthy coping strategies are key to managing anxiety. In this way, success in education is not only measured by academic achievement but also by students’ mental well-being and holistic development.
